Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA)
Silicon Valley Sarcoma Center now offers Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA), an FDA approved, ground breaking treatment for painful bone cancer metastasis. RFA is an effective, safe, well-tolerated, and minimally-invasive procedure.
RFA uses a needle electrode and generator to deliver radiofrequency energy directly to lesions, destroying them through the application of controlled heat. Approximately 40,000 RFA procedures have been performed worldwide to date on desperately ill cancer patients. Recent studies have shown remarkable levels of successful ablation in lesions and their margins-88% (Siperstein et. al, 2000) to 96.4% (Curley et. al. 2000)- for patients with liver lesions considered unresectable. Ninety-five percent of patients experiencing the insufferable pain of bone cancer had clinically significant reductions in pain levels after RFA treatment (Callstrom, 2002).
Ask Dr. Mohler about RFA and how it can enhance your life and ease the excruciating pain of some cancers.
